East-Midlands
Nottingham East Midlands Airport is situated between Derby, Leicester and Nottingham. It is close to Castle Donington and is owned by the Manchester Airport Group. It serves a number of airlines but is mainly used by BMI British Midland.
It was originally a Royal Air Force station but it was purchased by local government authorities who named it East Midlands Airport. It was renamed Nottingham East Midlands in 2004 as people from outside the United Kingdom were unsure where the area was. Even this caused some controversy as it is actually in Leicestershire and is actually close to Derby.
The terminal has a range of shopping outlets in the main terminal, including health and beauty, music, books and toys. There is also a choice of eating establishments with options of takeaways and snacks or restaurant meals. A video games zone is situated in the terminal and there is also an indoor aircraft viewing balcony.
Other facilities include currency exchange, a first-aid room and an information desk that is open 24 hours. A Business Fax and photocopying service is also available at the information desk.
There are parking spaces for over 2000 vehicles and the sites are all floodlit and have 24 hour security patrols. Free courtesy buses provide transfers between the parking areas and the terminal.
